Dr. Sánchez is Associate Research Professor and Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Counselor Education at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). She received her PhD in Rehabilitation Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and both her MEd in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling and her BA in Psychology from FAU. Dr. Sánchez possesses over 15 years of clinical, teaching, and research experience. She uses a biopsychosocial framework for diagnosis, conceptualization, and treatment of individuals with neuropsychiatric disabilities, including neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., autism), mental illnesses (e.g., schizophrenia), substance use disorders (e.g., opioid [OUD]), neurocognitive disorders (e.g., traumatic brain injury [TBI]), and co-occurring disabilities. Her varied forensic and civil work settings span inpatient psychiatric facilities, Veterans Administration (VA), state hospitals and agencies, K-12 schools and postsecondary institutions, community mental health centers, and homeless shelters and transitional housing. As an ethical practitioner, Dr. Sánchez has received and maintains numerous certifications and licenses, from respective national and state credentialing agencies. Specifically, she is certified as a rehabilitation counselor (CRC) and a vocational evaluation specialist (CVE), a licensed Psychologist and mental health counselor (LMHC) in Iowa, and a licensed professional School Counselor and Exceptional Student Educator in Florida. Dr. Sánchez was guest co-editor of 2 special issues focused serious mental illness, published about 40 peer-reviewed articles and chapters, and presented over 75 professional workshops. Committed to the field of rehabilitation, Dr. Sánchez is Chair of the NCRE Council on Psychiatric Rehabilitation, a National Trainer for state/federal Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) agencies to improve employment satisfaction, financial independence, and quality of life for VR consumers, and has served on various editorial boards, expert panels, and external dissertation committees.
