Dr. Talya Fleming is the Medical Director of the Stroke Recovery Program, Post-COVID Rehabilitation Program & Aftercare Programs at JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute. Interested in the role of exercise and disability, she presents her clinical research nationally and internationally on the topics of stroke rehabilitation, modified cardiac rehabilitation for stroke survivors, neurorehabilitation, post-acute transitions of care and healthcare delivery. Dr. Fleming integrates the latest methods in stroke rehabilitation and rehabilitation technology to help patients maximize recovery. She has been integral in the creation, design and implementation of the JFK Johnson Stroke Recovery Program and related Stroke-HEART Trials from their inception. Dr. Fleming earned her medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, completed residency training at JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute and also has advanced certification from the American Board of Medical Specialties in Brain Injury Medicine. She is a Clinical Associate Professor at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Core Associate Professor at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine.
Dr. Fleming has achieved many professional accomplishments in her career. She has been awarded the Association of Academic Physiatrists Excellence in Research Writing Award, for the article titled “Impact of a Stroke Recovery Program Integrating Modified Cardiac Rehabilitation on All-cause Mortality, Cardiovascular Performance and Functional Performance.” The award recognizes the best paper published in the American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (AJPM&R) each year.
Dr. Fleming is a selected member of several national strategic leadership committees addressing stroke and COVID-19. She is a member of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine Stroke Interdisciplinary Stroke Interest Group-Health and Wellness Task Force which promotes health management and health maintenance after stroke. In addition, Dr. Fleming is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (AAPM&R), Multi-Disciplinary PASC (Post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2) Collaborative.
