Director of Multiple Sclerosis and Neuro-inflammation Center
Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Neuroscience Institute
Charlotte, North Carolina, United States
Dr. Abou Zeki is a neurologist, and a neuro-immunologist. She serves as the director of the Multiple Sclerosis Center at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Enterprise. The center serves a large population of North and South Carolina around the area of Charlotte, NC. She devotes her career toward helping patients with multiple sclerosis, not only through her clinical practice, but also through developing state of the art solutions to their most common clinical needs. She worked as a clinical advisor and instructor alongside multiple physician and engineer teams to help get medical innovations out of academia to patients through partnerships with industry and pharmaceutical companies. She also taught the design process to graduate and medical students through my work in biomedical engineering departments. Her research interest spans developing “compassionate diagnostics” that will serve as clinical decision making support tools to guide therapy for multiple sclerosis patients with complex disease manifestations and courses. She believes in precise and eventually personalized care is the solution towards a more streamlined “value-based care” for this patient population. Mobile health solutions for real time monitoring is a core element in this effort.
She is developing a biorepository of CSF, serum, urine, and saliva samples from MS patients and diverse neurological conditions and healthy controls. I am excited to keep the collaboration between the two centers as this will also allow for potential exploration of regional differences in MS phenotypes, both immune and clinical. The main eventual goal is developing a clinical decision-making support system will take into account multiple variables, including available clinical, radiomic, genomic, lipidomic and immunophenotypic data, that we are in the process of analyzing.
I do not have any relevant financial / non-financial relationships with any proprietary interests.
