Yoga is an ancient practice combining breathing techniques and mental focus with gentle body movements. Numerous studies support its efficacy and safety for wellness, performance enhancement, stress reduction, pain management, and healthy sleep. In this hands-on, experiential wellness session, Dr. Pey-Shan Wen will guide participants through a gentle yoga practice with emphasis on yogic breathing techniques. Dr. Wen is a long-time yoga practitioner and yoga researcher. An Associate Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at Georgia State University, her research focuses on two areas: using item response theory for measurement development, and applying mindfulness approaches for people with chronic disabilities, especially traumatic brain injury. She is particularly interested in measurements for assessing community integration/participation and community-based yoga interventions to help people with chronic disabilities manage symptoms and improve health and wellness.
