This symposium will present an overview of the CARE-4-TBI project and focus on the first aim of the project—standardizing the content of daily session notes for EMR entry by rehabilitation therapists (OT, PT, SLP) that then will allow valid extraction of day-to-day patient-level data for use in clinical research and clinical operations. The work completed by the interdisciplinary therapy representatives from across 15 TBI Model Systems and 1 VA Polytrauma Rehabilitation Center will be highlighted, including the identification, classification, categorization, and operational definitions for therapy activities, skilled interventions, and associated relevant daily session data.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion, participant will be able to describe challenges and solutions in conducting a pragmatic, observational, comparative effectiveness study investigating inpatient rehabilitation approaches for traumatic brain injury.
Upon completion, participant will be able to describe how patient-level data contained in the electronic daily session note can be standardized for research and clinical operations.
Upon completion, participant will be able to apply the standardized note structure to daily clinical practice.
