The purpose of this symposium is to discuss the framework of the interdisciplinary treatment of the oncology patient in the inpatient rehabilitation setting with hematologic malignancies. We will discuss how to safely mobilize and prevent adverse side effects for the patient with pancytopenia who are diagnosed with Leukemia, Lymphoma, or Multiple Myeloma. We will address minimum laboratory values and benefits to mobilization, safety considerations, barriers to participation, discharge planning, and possible adverse side effects to exercise and mobilization at an inpatient rehabilitation facility. We will also address logistial challenges and coordination of blood and platelet transfusions, oncological follow-up, and chemotherapy infusions.

Learning Objectives:

Review current literature regarding hematological malignancies management at inpatient rehabilitation settings.
Discuss the mobilization process, review lab values and guidelines for safe exercise and mobilization of the patient with hematological malignancies.
Give an overview of person-centered care in inpatient rehabilitation to address barriers for safe patient care and transition home
