The purpose of this symposium is to introduce the NCCIH R13 fellows to ACRM and describe barriers and ways to facilitate their inclusion. Although the NIH and the American Medical Association have developed many initiatives to support greater diversity in the medical and health sciences workforce, significant barriers to having an inclusive, equal, and diverse culture and climate in the biomedical field remain. Encouraging and featuring early career underrepresented minority (URM) scientists to testify to their experiences regarding inclusion will spur continued interest within these promising future scientists and in turn increase the number of URM In CIM workforce.

Learning Objectives:

Describe the characteristics of fellows selected for the R13 fellowship
Discuss issues that pertain to underrepresentation of diversity in the scientific CIM workforce.
Discuss mentoring needs of fellows from underrepresented backgrounds
