Coordinating behavior modification strategies with home programming to meet best practice recommendations in neurorehabilitation

There is increasing pressure for rehab clinicians to obtain excellent clinical outcomes despite increasing challenges to in-person delivery of care. Best practice guidelines emphasize the importance of behavior change in achieving positive neurorehabilitation outcomes. The symposium will first review the evidence base behind recent additions to best practice clinical guidelines in neurorehabilitation, including the use of behavior modification as an intervention to increase physical activity at home and within the community. Next, it will present a how-to guide for how to implement several behavioral techniques to enhance carry-over of in-clinic gains to the home/community setting. Finally, it will present an approach to implementing a rehabilitation gaming home practice program that clients will adhere to. Practical strategies to accelerate clinical implementation of new best practices and technologies will be discussed, such as the applicability of the 2022 Remote Therapeutic Monitoring clinical billing codes.
