Dr. Mendonca has expertise and knowledge in the fields of accessibility and disability, research methodologies, outcomes measurement, occupational therapy, and assessment development.
Her research over the past fourteen years has focused largely on innovative measurement techniques to measure accessibility and participation outcomes. A primary emphasis of her research has been to better understand issues surrounding the accessibility of medical devices for people with disabilities and the development and testing of information systems. She has also served on the United States Department of Justice Access Board Standards Committee to develop standards for accessible medical equipment.
She is licensed internationally as an occupational therapy practitioner. She has also been funded federally and through foundations. She has presented at national and international conferences to disseminate her research leading to over 60 presentations and 16 chapters and publications.
