Yvonne Jackson, PT, DPT, EdD has been practicing physical therapy for 30 years.
She recently received her Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree from Rocky Mountain University in 2019. Yvonne has worked as a clinician in Adult Neurorehabilitation at Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan, Outpatient Orthopedics at the former Rehab-East Clinic, Special Education at Detroit Public Schools, and various Home Health Care agencies. She began teaching seven years ago at Baker College, in the physical therapist assistant program. While there, she became the Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education for the program. Yvonne is currently working at Western Michigan University as a founding member of the developing Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. She teaches various foundation courses, but her focus is on Pediatrics, Health and Wellness, and Clinical Education Preparatory Courses.
She is currently conducting research about the correlation between premature or low birth weight babies to physical and/or cognitive disabilities, remediation in health science programs, interprofessional education, and pediatric caregiver support. She has received three grants for her work at Western Michigan University to date. The Assessment Fellows Grant for her Health Mentors Program includes completing assessments each semester of a 3-semester program. The Support for Faculty Scholars Award (SFSA) for her Pre-Post Assessment of Pediatric Physical Therapy Treatment Sessions in Collaboration with Euro-Peds National Center Intensive Physical Therapy. The Faculty Research Travel Fund for her Poster Presentation at the Combined Sections Meeting of the American Physical Therapy Association Annual Conference.
