Patricia Garcia, Psy.D. is an early-career, Clinical Neuropsychologist at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana and Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor for the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Indiana University School of Medicine. She received her Master of Science and doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Albizu University-Miami campus with an emphasis in clinical neuropsychology. She completed her pre-doctoral internship training with a dual focus in rehabilitation medicine and neuropsychology at Jackson Memorial Hospital, and her post-doctoral residency at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine where she specialized on the neuropsychological assessment of neurological and psychiatric patient populations. Dr. Garcia completed additional fellowship training at Jackson Memorial Hospital/Ryder Trauma Center in affiliation with the University of Miami, and later at the Christine E. Lynn Rehabilitation Center, where she specialized in medical and rehabilitation neuropsychology. Dr. Garcia has additionally focused on developing cultural competency to serve the Hispanic/Latino community in Indiana, and has established the first multicultural clinic at RHI specializing in the assessment and treatment of Hispanics with a brain lesion. She is especially passionate about working with individuals from minoritized groups with the goal of minimizing health care disparities and assisting patients in their recovery trajectory after a brain injury. Her research interests encompass cross-cultural neuropsychology, healthcare disparities and barriers for care among marginalized communities after a TBI, and the role of cultural variables in disease and recovery. Dr. Garcia has served in various leadership roles in professional organizations such as the National Academy of Neuropsychology, the American Board of Professional Neuropsychology, and is now the co-chair of the Culture and Diversity in TBI Task Force with the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine. In 2016, Dr. Garcia was the recipient of the Edith Kaplan Women in Leadership Award from the National Academy of Neuropsychology.
