With a profound appreciation for mathematics, Christian Francis, a third year medical student at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, has been working at The International Collaboration on Repair Discoveries (ICORD) with a focus on quantitative muscle ultrasound. With the guidance of Michael Berger MD/PHD, Christian has developed a new mathematical model to measure the muscle thickness of the first dorsal interosseous muscle with higher reliability and validity than traditional models. The future direction is to expand this model to other muscle groups such as the biceps brachii and rectus femoris.
