Before retirement, Charles Levy served as the Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service, Site Co-Director of the Center of Innovation on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (CINDRR), and the Director of the OIF/OEF Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Polytrauma team at North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System. He also served as Adjunct Associate Professor for the Department of Occupational Therapy, and the college of the Arts at the University of Florida and was dedicated to bringing the best possible care to Veterans with limb loss. He authored peer-review articles on sports and recreation for individuals with limb deficiency, prosthetic prescription and componentry, and the effect of physical activity on body image of amputees. He was a Charter Member of the Advisory Board for the College of Orthotics and Prosthetics at St. Petersburg College, served as an Advisory Board Member of the O and P Edge, a trade journal of prosthetics and orthotics, and represented the American Association of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation on the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Negotiated Rulemaking Committee for Prosthetics and Orthotics. His dedication and compassion to Veterans with disabilities was cited as justification for the Paul B. Magnuson Award for Outstanding Achievement in Rehabilitation Research and Development in 2015, “the highest honor for VA rehabilitation investigators.”
