Dr. Shiu is a behavioral scientist with advanced quantitative training and extensive experiences in applying a wide array of statistical tools to solve real-world problems. Dr. Shiu received his first masters’ degree in social work (MSW, 2007), a doctoral degree in behavioral health (PhD, 2013), and a second master’s degree in biostatistics (MS, 2014). Because Dr. Shiu has long-term research and practice interests in mental and behavioral health among marginalized populations, he is specialized in applying state-of-the-art statistical tools to measure and model latent variables, such as Item Response Theory, Classical Test Theory, Structural Equation Model, among others. Dr. Shiu has been actively participating in research projects in which he plays the key roles in revising, adapting, and creating succinct yet accurate scales that display good psychometrics properties.
