Courtney Bland, OTD-S, BFA is a first-year student at Midwestern University, where she is pursuing a doctoral degree in occupational therapy. Previously she graduated from The Ohio State University, with a Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) in dance. Shortly after graduating, she embarked on a dual-career path in clinical research at The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center and professional dance for the National Basketball Association. Currently she serves as a mentored investigator at The Ohio State University, implementing a study funded by the National Institute of Aging (NIA) to examine Adapted Tango dance as a solution for persistent sensorimotor symptoms of chemotherapy-induced neuropathy. She has been awarded a supplemental grant funded by the NIA to establish preliminary data regarding the effect of sensorimotor intervention of rhythmically-entrained Adapted Argentine Tango on sensation localized to the upper extremity (UE) and occupational therapy (OT) outcomes. Bland has recently been elected as president of her university’s student occupational therapy association (SOTA).
