Dr. Bleakley is committed to advancing clinical care through the application of evidence based therapy and technology. He consults with Innovations works and Alpha Labs Gear, two technology incubators on innovative products and technologies that impact therapy and healthcare. Dr. Bleakley has long standing collaborations with Carnegie Mellon University Computer Science program collaborating on projects including Virtual reality augmented upper extremity robotic therapy to working on a computer vision and robotic exercise assessment program called Virtual Coach. He has presented related findings to the European Research Council in Lisbon Portugal in 2017. Dr. Bleakley is heavily involved in the local and national Parkinson’s disease Community and was appointed to the board for the National Parkinson’s Disease Association in 2010. He frequently collaborates on projects and educational opportunities with Western PA Parkinson’s foundation. He fostered a partnership between CMU and the Parkinson’s foundation that led to the Abililife dynamic postural device. Dr. Bleakley assisted in the product design, validation and initial clinical trials and was later appointed to the Abililife board. Scott Bleakley is also recognized for his expertise in teaching and education. Dr. Bleakley lectures on technology and the applications to rehabilitation and clinical care at Chatham, Slippery Rock and Duquesne Universities. In addition he speaks to local and regional physician groups and educates on the role of robotics and technology in the rehabilitation process.
