Brenda Jeng is a doctoral student in the Rehabilitation Science program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and member of the Exercise Neuroscience Research Laboratory. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science and Master’s degree in Kinesiology, Adapted Physical Activity from California State University, Northridge. Her prior experience involves working at a land- and aquatic-based therapeutic exercise center for individuals with various types of disabilities (i.e., stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord injury). During her doctoral program, she has been involved in several laboratory projects and published papers regarding oxygen cost of walking as well as physical activity and sedentary behavior in neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. Her current research aims to examine the oxygen cost of walking, or walking efficiency, and its correlates, determinants, and management. She recently transitioned from an NIH T32 training fellowship to an NIH F31 fellowship to examine the relationship between metrics of body composition and walking efficiency and the disease-related consequences in persons with multiple sclerosis.
