Dr. Mandi Sonnenfeld has been a licensed occupational therapist (OT) for 21 years and received her Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. As an OT, she has worked in various environments (e.g., skilled nursing, inpatient rehabilitation, community re-entry, outpatient rehabilitation, and the home environment) and acquired hands-on experience with a variety of patient diagnoses, such as stroke, lower extremity fractures, upper extremity fractures, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and generalized debility. Dr. Sonnenfeld’s dissertation focused on conducting population health services research using the Hispanic Established Population for the Epidemiologic Study of the Elderly (H-EPESE) linked with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services datafiles to examine the longitudinal effect of vision impairment and health outcomes among older Mexican Americans. Her health service research interests include implementation science methodology, quality improvement, and patient safety among older adults living with disability. As an educational leadership fellow, Dr. Sonnenfeld’s goals are to obtain specific interprofessional, evaluation, and research skills needed to become a leader in advancing high-quality health services and education.
