My role on the project that is the subject of this abstract is to provide statistical support. My main area of research is in chronic disease epidemiology. I am the PI of an R01 from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research for a project which is examining the associations between the subgingival microbiome, periodontal disease, inflammation, and subclinical cardiovascular disease and whether these associations are modified by type 1 diabetes. This was a direct result of pilot projects to examine the associations between salivary inflammation and glycemic control as well as the salivary microbiome and subclinical cardiovascular disease for which I obtained internal funding from USF to support. I am also a multi-PI for an R34 funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute to develop a mobile application targeted to adolescents to improve self-management of asthma. In addition, I recently completed a project funded by the American Diabetes Association Clinical Science and Epidemiology Award to look at effect modification of the association between pericardial adipose tissue and coronary artery calcification by gender and type 1 diabetes status.
