MD/PhD Student
Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine
I do not have any relevant financial / non-financial relationships with any proprietary interests.
My career goal is to conduct research on the quantitative mechanisms underlying shoulder injuries and to translate this research into targeted treatment paradigms. My prior research experience working in a sports medicine-focused biodynamics laboratory initiated my immediate educational goals and my future career aspirations. My subsequent discovery of rehabilitation research offers an atmosphere that perfectly mirrors my motivation to become a liaison between clinical care and academic innovation.
At Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, I am enrolled in the NIH-funded Medical Scientist Training Program. As a member of the program, I am concurrently pursuing both a Doctor of Medicine degree following the completion of my PhD in Biomedical Engineering. This program fosters an environment to train future leaders in clinical medicine and translational research. Throughout my PhD research, I organized a thesis project based on my dedication to research at the interface of clinical need, scientific discovery, and engineering quantification. As the leader of my project, I was in a unique role of communicating between an established research scientist and a skilled clinician, a role I only expect to grow as I finish my education and continue clinical work as a physician scientist. Additionally, I conducted my research in collaboration between Northwestern University and the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab (formally Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago). The Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, an integrated clinical and translational research hospital, was an optimal setting to test and treat the subjects I plan on including in my current and future research.
I am currently completing my Doctor of Medicine degree, and plan to pursue Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation residency training following my graduation. This specialty perfectly connects my research interests of understanding neuromuscular control with my clinical interests of improving rehabilitation programs for musculoskeletal injuries in sports medicine.
