Dr. Catherine Sabiston has held a faculty position for 14 years (McGill University & University of Toronto) and was awarded a Canada Research Chair (Tier II) in physical activity and mental health. Dr. Sabiston has become an internationally recognized researcher demonstrating innovative ideas that push the boundaries of sport, exercise, and health psychology in theoretical, methodological, and practical ways in both healthy and clinical populations across the lifespan. Dr. Sabiston has an excellent research record and reputation with 280 peer-reviewed articles published in highly reputable health and psychology scholarly journals. She has also authored 27 book chapters and co-edited 3 books. Several of these publications have received extensive media attention. She has given over 500 presentations at National and International scholarly meetings (of which over 200 are published abstracts) and has given 80 invited professional talks to community members, medical practitioners, and patients and 4 international keynotes. In this capacity, Dr. Sabiston focuses on the practical outcomes of her research and engages in numerous knowledge exchange and knowledge translation activities. She has been awarded 76 grants as principal or co-investigator amounting to over $23 million dollars in funding. Furthermore, she developed and now directs the first Mental Health and Physical Activity Research Centre (MPARC) in Canada, if not internationally. She has trained 15 Ph.D. students and 24 M.Sc. students and mentored 12 Post-Doctoral fellows. Finally, she has been awarded 11 career distinctions.
To demonstrate commitment to research excellence, Dr. Sabiston was an Associate Editor for the Encyclopedia of Sport and Exercise Psychology and the International Sport and Exercise Psychology Encyclopedia, and an Associate Editor of a leading journal (Journal of Sport & Exercise Psychology), as well as Editorial Board member for three other leading journals (Psychology of Sport and Exercise, International Review of Sport and Exercise Psychology, & Sport, Exercise, Performance Psychology). She is the Past-President of the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity. Furthermore, she is a long-standing invited psychosocial peer review committee member for various National funding agencies and an invited reviewer for a number of grant organizations globally.
