Robert Trierweiler has worked as a vocational rehabilitation counselor at the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab (formerly the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago) since 1993. In addition, he is employed part-time as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor with the Illinois Spina Bifida Association. Prior to the Ability Lab, Robert worked at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital in Wheaton as a vocational rehabilitation counselor. He has over 35 years of experience in rehabilitation counseling, assessment, and returning to work individuals with disabilities. He consulted as a vocational expert with the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of Hearings and Appeals from 1989 to 2004. Robert is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the state of Illinois. He has a Masters degree in counseling from Western Illinois University and has taken advanced graduate classes in educational psychology from Northern Illinois University. Robert has presented at state and national conferences on return to work after acquiring a disability. Currently he is involved in a national research project on the use of job accommodations for job retention among individuals with physical disabilities. He was the co-investigator in a recently concluded five-year national research study, which focused on return to work for survivors of brain injury caused by stroke. He has co-authored several published articles on return to work for individuals with disabilities. Robert has taught graduate classes for the Rehabilitation Counseling program at Adler University in Chicago as an adjunct instructor. Currently he is a peer reviewer of submitted articles on rehabilitation and return to work after acquired disability for the Journal of Occupational Rehabilitation and Topics in Stroke Rehabilitation.
