Hui-Ju Young, PhD, is an exercise physiologist and a certified movement analyst with extensive training in exercise science related to physiological responses of the circulatory and muscular systems associated with various exercise forms as well as in Laban/Bartenieff movement analysis. She developed and validated calibration equations that allowed researchers to measure intramuscular fat using ultrasound. The calibration equations have been referenced and utilized in the field of health and musculoskeletal ultrasound research. Her current research portfolio includes studying physiological and psychosocial effects of exercise/movement interventions in people with physical disabilities as well as the influence of movement quality on health and functional outcomes. Dr. Young serves as the Associate Director of the National Center on Health, Physical Activity and Disability (NCHPAD) and is a research scientist at the UAB/Lakeshore Research Collaborative.
