Jennifer Hanrahan, MSN, RN, CNL graduated from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH, with her Masters in Nursing in 2009. She also obtained her Clinical Nurse Leader certification in 2009. Prior to joining the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab (SRAlab, formerly the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago) in 2014 as a Clinical Nurse Leader and Direct Care Nurse, she worked as a Direct Care Nurse at Hines VA in Hines, IL, then as a Case Manager at Loyola University Medical Center, in Maywood, IL. Through her experience in inpatient acute care on Medical Surgical, Hematology Oncology and Burn/Trauma units, she learned the importance of advocating for patients and prioritizing patient safety. In her role as Clinical Nurse Leader at SRAlab for medically complex patients, she served as a mentor and educator to nursing colleagues, patients/families and allied health staff. She was also the co-chair/chair of Nurse Practice Council at SRAlab from March 2019 through November 2020, and collaborated with multiple disciplines on quality improvement projects, specifically related to falls and pressure injury prevention. Through her past experience and leadership, she transitioned into the role of Coordinator, Patient Safety and Accreditation in the fall of 2020. Her current work involves implementing best practices and ensuring patient safety is at the forefront of care provided by all disciplines at SRAlab. Since joining the SRAlab team, her focus has been on pressure injury prevention, and identifying best practices that are able to be implemented in the acute rehabilitation environment to prevent hospital-acquired pressure injuries.
