POSITION TITLE: PhD Student
EDUCATION/TRAINING : University of Iowa, PhD Exp 2026 Clinical Psychology, Neuropsychology
I am a third-year doctoral student in Clinical Psychology at the University of Iowa, working in Dr. Daniel Tranel’s neuropsychology laboratory. The broad theme of my graduate research experience to date focuses on characterizing outcomes after brain injury using neuroimaging. Previously, I was a research assistant in Dr. Joseph Giacino’s Neurorehabilitation Laboratory at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston, MA where I recruited participants and conducted patient interviews for the Traumatic Brain Injury Model System National Database.
Graduate Contributions:
1. Creation of a post-stroke cognitive outcome prediction model using lesion-symptom mapping. With Dr. Aaron Boes of the Iowa Neuroimaging and Noninvasive Brain Stimulation Laboratory, I developed a research idea using retrospective lesion and neuropsychological data with the goal of predicting cognitive outcomes from lesion location. We aim to publish our research in 2022.
2. Characterization of Episodic Autobiographical Amnesia. I conducted a multiple case study on the impairment of Episodic Autobiographical Memory (EAM) in three patients with temporal lobe epilepsy. All patients demonstrated impaired EAM despite otherwise mostly intact cognitive functioning, indicating that EAM impairments are not likely to be captured in standard neuropsychological batteries.
