Chief, Geriatrics and Extended Care
VA Boston Healthcare System
I do not have any relevant financial / non-financial relationships with any proprietary interests.
Trained in both geriatrics and oncology, I have spent my research career focusing on assessment of frailty and function in older adults, the epidemiology of cancer and other age-related diseases, and defining new clinical models to better meet the needs of frail elders. I am currently the director of Geriatrics and Extended Care at VA Boston, and a member of the Division of Aging at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Division of Medical Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI). Nearly a decade ago, I began a clinical and research collaboration between geriatricians and hematologists at DFCI, where I co-direct the Older Adult Hematologic Malignancy Program. I have served as PI on several independent research awards including a VA Merit Award, which followed after my training on a CSR&D CDA-2. I am currently Co-PI on a research grant from the Rx Foundation, and am PI of the Greater Boston MSTAR Program, an NIH T-35 training grant that offers medical students the opportunity experience research and the field of geriatrics. I have also led successful clinical innovation teams that have established new models of care for older adults.
