As a third-year doctor of physical therapy student, Hector Uriostegui has demonstrated extreme dedication to serving others while excelling academically. He is a founding member of the Northern Illinois University Diversity Equity Inclusion Alliance, which unites students, staff, and faculty of all cultural backgrounds who recognize the compelling need for change due to the adversity marginalized communities continue to experience. The alliance's goal is to help foster a culture within the PT profession in which PT and PTA careers are accessible to marginalized groups by generating awareness and providing resources for these opportunities. Hector's commitment to helping others began through volunteer work with the Northwest Special Recreation Association. He assisted adults with disabilities to learn self-worth, physical, motor, independence, and socialization skills. His passion for helping patients with neurological conditions was sparked while working as a Rehab Technician at Shirley Ryan Ability Lab. Hector worked alongside physical therapists treating Parkinson's Disease (PD) patients leading to a great interest in PD research.
