A Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) from Nova Southeastern University with a balanced understanding of traditional topics important to the field of occupational therapy including the foundations of OT practice, concepts of therapeutic use of self and context analysis of occupations. Additionally, I have learned about less traditional topics such as the business of practice and management, professional leadership and the application of measurement theory to evaluations during the OTD program. I have been able to demonstrate my attained knowledge during clinical experiences in mental health, physical disabilities and pediatric settings by exhibiting the ability to utilize an evidenced-based practice approach and alter between therapeutic modes to provide the best possible treatment to individuals. Furthermore, I conducted graduate level research investigating the Utilization of Assistive Devices Among Individuals with Low Vision.
A Health Sciences PhD student at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) working in the Rehabilitation Research Design & Disability (R2D2) Center on the NIDILRR funded Accessibility Ratings for Buildings (ARB) project with Dr. Roger O. Smith, Ph.D., OT, FAOTA, RESNA Fellow. Undergraduate research examined The Effects of Multifocal Lenses on Balance and Stability in People Diagnosed with Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy and a poster was presented at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR). Graduate research has been conducted on various topics relating to the ARB project and conference proposals to present findings had been accepted by the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM), Wisconsin Occupational Therapy Association (WOTA), American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), Occupational Therapy Summit for Scholars, and Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA). Moreover, because of my great interest in research, I also serve as a journal reviewer for the American Journal of Occupational Therapy (AJOT) in the topics of low vision, visual impairment, visual adaptation and time efficiency.
