I am Alexia Kountouri from Cyprus. I am 34 years old. I had a stroke in May 2015. My right side was paralyzed. I am Ambassador for stroke in Cyprus standing next to stroke survivor and their families. Being a stroke survivor, I have spent some time to get familiarised with my disability and develop my ways of adapting, coping and solving problems. I believe that this attitude has contributed to my positive approach to life. My educational background included an MSc in Social Research Methods from Sussex University in UK. I have a BA in Social Work from Frederick University in Cyprus and Belgium a graduate certificate in Entrepreneurial Spirit Improving European Welfare of De Hogeschool West - Vlaanderen, Brugge, Belgium. My PhD was from Sussex University in UK. My thesis was about “Experiencing Breast Cancer at the interface between health and social care. A case study of women in Cyprus” but I stopped because the reading is very hard and to express myself in writing and to speak is difficult. I have spent time volunteering in a residential home in Cyprus helping the young people who need advice regarding sexual and reproductive issues. I hold a wide range of interests and hobbies. Some of my favourites are yoga and create a blog for young survivors and reclaiming their lives after stroke. I am sociable, enthusiastic and outgoing person. I am social worker and I am working in the centre Multifunction in Nicosia and job is Street Social Work like, homeless, support groups that are at odds with society, who are excluded, or who could become at odds with society.
