Carole A Tucker is the Adoue Distinguished Professor of Cognitive Rehabilitation and Associate Dean of Research, School of Health Professions, University of Texas | Medical Branch, Galveston TX USA. Her research interests include rehabilitation, learning health systems & health informatics, mobile health and wearable sensors, patient reported health outcomes, application of advanced statistical and analytical approaches to biomechanics datasets, pediatrics and sensorimotor development with emphasis on the role of the movement system in child health, and interventions to improve function and mobility in children with physical disabilities. While collaborative research and mentoring are critical components of her work, she has maintained active clinical practice, most recently in the neonatal and neuromotor practice areas which she finds immensely rewarding. Her education and training as both a physical therapist and an electrical engineer provide extensive skills to contribute to research and innovation for individuals with movement impairments. She is also involved in inter-professional practice opportunities for students both abroad and locally serving immigrant communities with have limited access to health care. She currently serves on the WHO ICF Functioning and Disability Reference Group (FDRG) which is the working group for the International Classification of Functioning, Health & Disability and serves as the American Council of Academic Physical Therapy (ACAPT) alternate for the Global Forum on Innovation in Health Professional Education. She has received funding for her research from the NIH, NSF, DoD. Dr Tucker is on the editorial boards of Pediatric Physical Therapy, Journal of Neuroengineering and Rehabilitation, and Physical and Occupational Therapy in Pediatrics. Dr Tucker directs the Health Outcomes: Science, Technology & Assessment Laboratory at the UTMB School of Health Professions.
