Dr. "Sally" Evans is a Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. She is the Chief of the Division of Rehabilitation Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). In her role, she is responsible for the oversight of the 23-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit at CHOP as well as the rehabilitation consultation services for children in the inpatient and outpatient arenas on all the campuses of CHOP. She is the medical director for the Departments of Physical and Occupation al Therapy, and the Interim Director for the Fellowship in Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine.
Clinically, Dr. Evans practices as a pediatric physiatrist. She is an expert in the management of hypertonia in children, including children with cerebral palsy and leukodystrophy. Dr. Evans's interest in rehabilitation robotics began with her collaboration with Dr. Kevin Cleary of the Sheik Zayed Institute of the Children's National Medical Center. Together they have been working to develop a robot and gamefied therapy system that will help increase motor control across the ankle for children with functional deficits in gait. Their work has been funded by internal grants from Children's National, the AACPDM, the NIH and HHS.
