Yumi Kim is a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She received her doctoral degree in Rehabilitation Science from the UAB and Bachelor's/Master's degrees in Kinesiology, Adapted Physical Activity from California State University, Northridge. Her prior experience involved working at land- and aquatic-based therapeutic exercise center for individuals with various types of disabilities (i.e., stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord injury).
Her research interest focuses on the development and implementation of community-based interventions delivered via the telehealth platform to enhance accessibility to physical activity for people with disabilities. With her dissertation that involves both quantitative and qualitative methods, she has examined factors influencing the initiation and maintenance of physical activity behavior in adults with multiple sclerosis, aiming to develop theory-based interventions tailored based on the readiness of physical activity behavior and functional mobility of people with disabilities.
