Dr. Mitchell is a Professor of Nursing and Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing. She has taught and done research for the last 25 years. Her areas of scholarship include bereavement, mental health outcomes research, and alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use and misuse. SHe has been funded by the CDC, HRSA, and SAMHSA. Most recently, she is involved with a grant to teach screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment (SBIRT) to Occupational Therapy and Rehabilitation Counseling students.
