I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Nutrition, Metabolism & Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB). My research is focused on understanding how social and cultural context influence life course pathways for dementia and cognitive decline in diverse populations. The majority of this research uses data from large, representative cohort studies of older Mexican and Mexican-American adults. My colleagues and I also use National Medicare claims files to study the healthcare utilization of older adults with and without dementia. This includes a focus on the differences in healthcare utilization by older Mexican-Americans with and without dementia.
