Dr. Niemeier is currently in private practice at a rehabilitation and neuropsychology practice in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. She is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at the Department of Psychology, University of Alabama, Birmingham. She has had a long and productive career as a clinician researcher and has held multiple leadership roles in traumatic brain injury and neurobehavioral disorder clinical care, translational research, scholarly and scientific contributions, clinical intervention, and study administration. She is a board-certified Rehabilitation Psychologist and Neuropsychologist, licensed in three states, with over 25 years in the field of rehabilitation. Her research activities to date include conduct of pilot and randomized controlled trials of manualized treatments as well as development and testing of measures to assess and elucidate variables affecting progress in recovery. Her career foci, external research support, and publications reflect her long-standing interest in helping find solutions to the challenging and ongoing problems faced by persons with traumatic and acquired injury, particularly chronic traumatic brain injury. She has received national awards for innovative neurobehavioral and cognitive treatments as well as for exploration of precision, accuracy, and sensitivity of measures of covariates that moderate or mediate rehabilitation outcomes. Her research has received state and federal grant support for the past 19 years. She provided grant or project leadership for NIDILRR TBI Model Systems and SCI Model Systems. She held many roles within Model Systems at Virginia Commonwealth University, Carolinas Medical Center, and at University of Alabama, Birmingham. In addition to the above, she has served grant review appointments for NIDILRR, NIH/NICHD, Department of Veteran’s Affairs, for the DOD, and for the U.S. Secretary of the VA Advisory Committee on Prosthetics and Special Disabilities Programs. She has an extensive mentoring history of students, residents, and pre- and post- professional rehabilitation providers.
