After earning his Doctorate of Physical Therapy, Dr. Wechsler achieved board-certification as a Clinical Specialist in Neurologic Physical Therapy and found his niche in neuro-oncologic rehabilitation at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Hoping to broaden his impact through research and teaching, Dr. Wechsler sought and successfully earned his PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences at MGH Institute of Health Professions (IHP) in Boston, MA. His dissertation utilized both quantitative and qualitative methods to investigate cancer-related fatigue and it's relationship with postural control and exercise behaviors among survivors of cancer.
Dr. Wechsler is most interested by the complex nature of neuro-oncologic diagnoses, clinical presentations, and the challenges faced by both patients and rehabilitation professionals in this field. He feels strongly that this complexity also provides abundant opportunities for interprofessional teams to work together to optimize clinical outcomes and patients’ quality of life. It is with this mindset that he approaches his clinical research. As a member of the Cancer Rehabilitation (CaRe) Lab at MGH IHP, his goal is to optimize rehab approaches for individuals living with and beyond cancer through the advancement of knowledge and clinical practice related to physical function and quality of life.
