Catherine Larsen Coley is a pediatric physical therapist who has worked in the Children’s National Health System since 2005 treating children from newborn to adulthood in the acute care, out-patient, and research settings. She has an extensive background working with infants in the Cardiac and Pediatric Intensive Care Units. She focuses out-patient care on children with neuro-developmental impairments providing serial casting, splints, and therapeutic handling and facilitation. She is also very experienced in use of Kinesiotape, the Universal Exercise Unit, Theratogs, and electrical stimulation in pediatric physical therapy. Since 2015, Catherine has partnered with the biomedical engineers at the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation at Children’s National Health System to design a responsive robotic foot and ankle strengthening device called PedBot. It has an integrated video game and allows for real time feedback with either robotic assistance, free movement, or added resistance. Catherine has presented internationally at multidisciplinary conferences and provided professional development continuing education courses to physical and occupational therapists. Catherine also works at the HSC Pediatric Center in Washington D.C. serving as a clinical mentor to physical therapists in the in-patient rehab department and out-patient services at 3 locations. Catherine completed her undergraduate degree at Virginia Commonwealth University graduating with Honors with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2005. She is a board certified Pediatric Clinical Specialist by the American Physical Therapy Association. She is also certified in Neuro-Developmental Treatment by the NDTA.
