Dr. Ahonle is a researcher, rehabilitation counselor educator, and a certified rehabilitation counselor. He is also a Research Affiliate with the Veteran Rural Health Resource Center-Gainesville, Office of Rural Health, the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.
Dr. Ahonle is interested in research that addresses the unique needs of emerging populations with chronic condition (e.g. Traumatic Brain Injury, Substance Use Disorder), with/without co-occurring cognitive disabilities such as, military Veterans, transition age youths, and racial and ethnic minorities. He is also interested in research that explores the use of tele-technologies to increase access, utilization, and outcomes of vocational rehabilitation services for these population.
Dr. Ahonle has a background in information technology and rehabilitation counseling with expertise in using secondary data analysis on large vocational and health rehabilitation datasets to examine the factors of community integration outcomes (i.e., employment, return to post-secondary education, and independent living), and use of qualitative methodologies to examine barriers and facilitators to community integration and health outcomes.
Dr. Ahonle’ s current research focuses on investigating on the vocational rehabilitation outcomes and experiences of individuals with cognitive impairment and TBI caused by cognitive impairment.
