Dr. Jeffery Rankin, PhD, is the Acting Director of the Pathokinesiology Laboratory and Co-director of the Rehabilitation Engineering Program at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center. He received his terminal degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, with a research background in using state-of-the-art musculoskeletal modeling and computer simulation methods to understand movement. Dr. Rankin uses engineering principles to better understand movement in order to develop rehabilitation devices and approaches that improve patient outcomes. He is also investigating the application of wearable sensors to improve clinical outcomes for those recovering from stroke, spinal cord injury, and other conditions. In addition to his clinical interests, Dr. Rankin has also conducted research to better understand cycling biomechanics and non-human movements like ostrich running and kangaroo rat jumping. Dr. Rankin’s expertise is recognized internationally and he regularly presents his research findings at national and international conferences.
