Program Description Traumatic brain injury (TBI), a specialized focus of clinical care and rehabilitation research, is a disruption of the normal function of the brain caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or a penetrating head injury. Spasticity is a motor disorder marked by a velocity-dependent increase in muscle tone or tonic stretch reflexes associated with hypertonia. Commonly referred to as muscle tightness or stiffness, spasticity can present variably in a clinical setting, and can be defined as an uncontrolled tightening caused by disrupted signals from the brain.

This satellite symposium will highlight strategies to assess and manage spasticity of the spinal cord due to TBI and to enhance function and quality of life. This accredited activity with interactive audience Q&A will be used to illustrate the complexity of decision-making and outcome measurement. An emphasis will be placed on information that can be applied in clinical practice, including recent advances.
