Identifying Critical Mass: The Need for Interdisciplinary Critical Care Rehabilitation Accreditation Standards

 
Over the past 15 years, consensus has grown across the medical community that interdisciplinary rehabilitation provided in critical care environments results in improved patient outcomes. After accumulating this significant amount of evidence and clinical practice guidelines that support the practice of critical care rehabilitation, the field may now consider the creation of critical care rehabilitation accreditation standards. This panel discussion will invite speakers from across the field of critical care: providers, administrators, payers and other stakeholders to comment on the current status of the field and determine if accreditation standards should be created and what shape and focus these patient-centered standards should take. As a third party accreditor of health and human services, CARF International uses field-driven, person centered standards to assist service providers in improving the quality of their services, demonstrate value, and meet internationally recognized organizational and program standards.
