An Introduction to Patient Experience Design is an hour and fifteen minute course focused on teaching healthcare organizations, healthcare administrators, and clinicians principles in applied psychology to optimize the patient experience. It touches on topics including the DISC assessment and its relevancy to improving communication between clinicians and patients. It also discusses elements of social psychology and cognitive biases as it related to clinicians forming stronger bonds with patients. Motivating patients is another key factor to optimizing the patient experience and marketing psychology is discussed as a valuable and practical tool to improve the odds of adherence to the plan of care. Finally, we discuss research as it relates to conveying empathy and diffusing aggressive patients. The course is fun, interactive, and innovative.
