Using Tools in a New Way, Parallel Bars in the ICU

Early mobilization has long been recognized as key for better patient outcomes and decreased length of stay, however mobilization has always been challenging with patients who must be seen bedside. All mobilization or therapy is not equal. To avoid hospital-induced weakness, patients require a critical amount of exercise intensity that can most easily be achieved by weight bearing. Clinicians must consider what is optimal for this task and can be used for interdisciplinary practices. The purpose of the symposia will be to 1) review current knowledge about practices in the ICU 2) share best practices in the ICU to promote optimal patient outcomes 3) the experience of the patient in the ICU-what we can do to make it the best possible and 4) what tools will best promote early mobilization from both a patient and staff point of view.
