While there are many studies about quality of life for caregivers of civilians with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and other chronic conditions (e.g., cancer), less is known about well-being for caregivers whose care recipients are Veterans with TBI. TBI is one of the most common debilitating injuries incurred by Veterans. Therefore, it is important to understand the relationships between these caregivers’ characteristics, well-being, and Veterans’ changed behavior due to TBI. The purpose of the current presentation is first, to examine which changed behaviors are related to caregivers’ psychosocial well-being. Second, to identify relationships among caregivers’ characteristics (age, education, income, employment, race), caregiving situation (length of caregiving), and psychosocial well-being. Attendants will be able to identify which changed behaviors and demographic factors are related to each aspect of caregivers’ psychosocial well-being. Finally, attendants will be able to identify tailored interventions to better support Veterans and their family members, especially younger caregivers.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion, participant will be able to describe the relationship between caregiver’s perception of the changed behaviors experienced by veterans with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and caregivers' psychosocial well-being
Upon completion, participant will be able to describe the relationships among caregiver characteristics, caregiving situation, and caregivers’ psychosocial well-being.
Upon completion, participant will be able to list tailored interventions to better support veterans and their family members, especially based on the caregiver's racial identity and current age.
