On February 1, 2022, the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) released a consensus study report (Roadmap) commissioned by the Department of Defense Combat Casualty Care Research Program summarizing the findings of an expert committee on how progress can be further advanced in TBI care and research. This report follows the previous 10-year National Research Action Plan for TBI that was put into effect in 2012. While progress was made during the past decade, many questions remain in regard to the most effective preventative, acute, rehabilitative, and long-term care for persons with TBI and their families. This symposium will provide an overview of the Roadmap’s recommendations for acute care, rehabilitation and long-term care, research, health and healthcare equity, as well as application to children and family members.

Learning Objectives:

1. List the 8 primary recommendations of the NASEM Roadmap on Accelerating Progress for TBI Care and Research.
2. Describe how the recommendations are applicable to addressing the needs of children with TBI.
3. Describe the unmet needs of families of persons with TBI and the report's recommendations relevant to families.
