This symposium will present the latest information on the only evidence-based treatment shown to improve recovery from concussion and prevent delayed recovery when administered early after injury in a substantial proportion of adolescents. Data from two randomized trials will inform a discussion on the effect of good adherence to the exercise prescription, the effect of early exercise on improving concussion physical examination abnormalities as well as specifically on the cognitive and emotional symptoms patients experience after concussion and, finally, data will be presented on the sensitivity and specificity of systematic exercise testing for diagnosing concussion.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion, participant will be able to describe the efficacy, safety, and the effect of adherence, of sub-symptom threshold aerobic exercise early after injury to safely speed recovery and prevent delayed recovery in adolescents.
Upon completion, participant will be able to describe that early aerobic exercise treatment is especially beneficial to those adolescents who have multiple physical examination abnormalities as well as the effect of this treatment on cognitive and emotional symptoms after concussion.
Upon completion, participant will be able to describe the sensitivity and specificity of systematic exercise testing for diagnosing concussion.
