The purpose of this symposium is to provide an overview of current knowledge of sex differences in brain injury by using a multi-modal approach to understand the psychological, neurological, and functional outcomes across populations with TBI. We have assembled a group of researchers with wide expertise across these domains who will present their state-of-the-art data obtained very recently. We will cover sex and/or gender differences in epidemiology, symptoms reporting, psychological and psychiatric outcomes and the impact of multi-model imaging factors in a variety of brain injury populations from veterans, civilians, and criminal justice-involved individuals. We believe that this symposium will not only highlight the use of Social Determinants of Health in research but also provide knowledge for very precise targets for further research, education, and policy changes.

To differentiate numerous variables and their impact on the recovery from brain injury in males and females
To understand the role of brain imaging factors that can be utilized as outcomes or moderators in a multi-model analysis
To appreciate and incorporate SDOH as a powerful resource for research that can lead to precise and individual targets for treatment
