Functional Deficits of Pediatric Patients with SARS-CoV-2 Infection

There is sparse literature surrounding need for pediatric rehabilitation following acute SARS-CoV-2 infection but clinically our pediatric rehabilitation medicine team at a large academic institution has seen a need. The low frequency of severe pediatric COVID19 and sequelae at any one institution necessitates broad collaboration across many sites to achieve adequate enrollment and generalizability in future research. It is important to raise awareness into potential treatments, prevention strategies, and outcome knowledge to educate patients and their families through recovery. While the adult population has seen high volume which has made rehabilitation an integral step in their care, pediatric patients have smaller numbers and has made it harder to analyze and make conclusions. However, given the significant and often life-altering sequelae that has been seen over the past two years, it is important that the pediatric rehabilitation community come together to improve the care of pediatric patients with post-acute COVID19 complications.
