The NDNG and ARGRNG have teamed up to provide mentorship symposia for early career ACRM members in the last 4 years and this year have additionally teamed up with the CDNG to provide this symposium. This years’ symposium focus is on “Developing Healthy Mentoring Relationships Focus on Researchers Who Identify As Members of Racial/Ethnic Minority Groups”, an especially timely topic with all the changes in format and availability we’ve all had to navigate during the ongoing COVID19 pandemic. Symposium Curriculum: Focus will be based on the definition from the National Science Foundation, this includes: Blacks or African Americans, Hispanics or Latinos, American Indians or Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and other Pacific Islanders.

Learning Objectives:

identify at least 1 strategy to support racial/ethnic minority graduate students and early career researchers in academia
identify methods to enhance the mentorship experience with rehabilitation researchers who identify as members of racial/ethnic minority groups
describe strategies to support mentees who speak English as a second language.
list strategies to identify a research topic/research mentor that aligns with your career progression
identify which type of mentors are most helpful for attendees growth and development considering their career and personal values at a particular stage.
