This Symposium offers a unique opportunity for clinical professionals to engage with professionals from the rehabilitation technology industry to understand the evidence base for advanced technology for upper extremity rehabilitation. Each symposium will address specific emerging advanced technologies with a mix of didactic lecture and hands-on experience. Part 1 of this double symposium focuses on 3 key technologies for upper extremity rehabilitation: 1) UE Robotic Assisted Therapies, 2) Brain-Computer Interface Technology, and 3) Vagus Nerve Stimulation. Attendees will be learning from clinical and technical specialists in rehabilitation technology, examining the research and practice evidence for these emerging solutions, and having structured opportunities with industry members to trial the solutions. The last part of the course is a hands-on demonstration with relevant rehabilitation technology vendors exhibiting at the conference.

Learning Objectives:

Identify three social and policy trends driving the need for and development of advanced neurorehabilitation technology.
Identify 3 advances in neurorehabilitation technology for recovery in the acute and chronic phases.
Explain the evidence for the emerging use of robotics in rehabilitation, and how it may be clinically applied for upper extremity rehabilitation.
Explain the evidence for use of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation for 3 different clinical cases for upper limb rehabilitation.
Explain the evidence for the emerging use of tDCS and TMS in rehabilitation, and how it may be clinically applied for upper extremity rehabilitation.
